Bertom has released Denoiser, a freeware noise reduction effect in VST3 and AU plugin formats for digital audio workstations on PC and Mac.

Just divide the buffer size by the number of samples per second (sample rate). For example, if you have your buffer size set to 256 and your sample rate at 48 kHz, divide those two and you’ll get 5.3 ms. If you change the settings to 512 and 48 kHz, however, it’ll average out to 10.6 ms. SonEQ has 3 bands, bass, middle and treble. Also, SonEQ has a pre-amp section. SonEQ is a free VST/AU/AAX plugin for Mac and Windows. 3 band Equalizer, Low, Mid, High. 2 Musical Filters, High-Pass Low-Pass. Preamp stage with bass booster. 64-bit floating point precision. Up to 192kHz sample rates supported; Video Preview.

Denoiser is a noise reduction plugin for removing noise from audio recordings, including music, post-production, spoken word, and dialogue. It features a simple user interface that is beginner-friendly and optimized for quickly cleaning up the audio for podcasts and demo music tracks. Due to its zero-latency processing, Denoiser can also be used as an insert effect during a live broadcast.

The interface features a pair of filters (high-pass and low-pass) and five vertical sliders for adjusting the noise reduction on five different frequency bands. All five sliders can be moved simultaneously by clicking and dragging the Link control. The slider on the left side on the interface controls the Threshold value for the noise reduction algorithm.

Unlike most noise reduction tools, Denoiser’s noise reduction algorithm doesn’t need to analyze a static noise profile. Instead, it tracks how the noise part of the audio signal is evolving in each band and removes it. It operates similar to a dynamic equalizer, in the sense that there is no apparent phase shift when there is no noise reduction. One thing to keep in mind when using Denoiser is that it works best for moderate noise reduction. Don’t push it too hard as this may introduce clearly audible noise reduction artifacts.

So, who is this plugin for? If you don’t need a super-advanced noise production tool, look elsewhere. But, if you need something to quickly clean up a recorded or live piece of audio, Bertom Denoiser is worth looking into. The plugin provides very decent results while being easy to use and very light on CPU consumption.

Denoiser can be downloaded free of charge from Bertom’s website. Both 32-bit and 64-bit plugin hosts are supported. A valid email address is required to receive the download link. You will be asked to confirm your subscription to Bertom’s mailing list before the download link is delivered to your inbox.
